Presentation
A 68-year-old woman went to her ophthalmologist with a concern about a retinal hemorrhage in her eye. She also had blurred vision, lots of floaters, and vision loss, especially in her peripheral vision, in both eyes. Using fundus imaging, the ophthalmologist observed edema mainly in the macula of her eyes, and found that one eye had progressed more than the other. She was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in her early 40s, and in recent years has had more and more trouble keeping her blood sugar under control. She denied any headache or other symptoms.
